Just Eat the Bowl of Soup

Hello Mama!

Has your child ever refused to eat the meal they are served? Today I served soup, and two of my lovely children decided that they were in no way eating it. I reminded them that they could choose not to eat, and that’s okay. They both refused to eat lunch. One child begged for other food, and cried over having to eat the soup. One stealthily took what he could secretly get from his sister’s snack.
This got me thinking. How often do I refuse what the Father serves me? He gives me what I need to grow, to be nourished, and to sustain me. But I have turned up my nose to what He places before me, longing for what someone else is served. I mistakenly think what I’m served isn’t good or right for me. I kick and scream. I refuse to receive what I’m given. The things the Father gives are always good, even when they don’t look good or what I want.
I want to be thankful for all that I’m given, but there are times I am not. When I come to these moments in life, I pray to choose to eat the “bowl of soup” in front of me and give thanks, trusting my Father to provide what I need and what is good.
Matthew 7:9–11 “Is there anyone among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you then, although you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”
Matthew 6:25–26 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t there more to life than food and more to the body than clothing? Look at the birds in the sky: They do not sow, or reap, or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you more valuable than they are?”
Mama, I pray for you in your season. Please share what you’re walking through these days. Let’s encourage each other…
