Every great story has a turning point—the climax where we are introduced to challenge, resistance, and conflict. The story of Exodus has all those elements as the drama unfolds with a family, once welcomed with favor and blessing, suddenly finding the tables turned. The Hebrew leader, Joseph, who once held power and influence is gone. A new king rises. Life changes… dramatically for the worse.
If you’ve ever felt everything crumble beneath your feet and found yourself in a situation you never expected, Exodus has something to say to you.
In our Exodus Podcast Series, Michelle walks with you through the first chapters of this powerful book—not as history from a distant era, but as a mirror for your own story. Episodes 1–10 reframe life in biblical times to relate to your journey today.
See Joseph’s placement in Egypt as part of God’s provision to save many nations. Exodus 1:5, “…but Joseph was already in Egypt.” His painful past becomes the very means God uses. A simple message: Your placement—right where you are—carries purpose.
Oppression rarely arrives loudly. A threatened king begins to reshape the identity of a free people. He declares his expectation for them to “perform as slaves,” (Exodus 1:14) and everything shifts. A simple message: Be aware of subtle bondage slowly creeping into your thinking.
Agreement with burdens can feel normal. The first generation didn’t resist. Taskmasters appeared. Fear took root. People of honor became people of weakness. A simple message: Are there areas where your agreement with burdens exceeds what God has given you to carry?
Oppression has a pattern. It begins with an attitude which grows into words that seek to demean and control. Actions take away freedom, little by little. A simple message: See it for what it is and don’t be deceived.
Courage comes from unexpected places. The Hebrew midwives refused to go along with injustice. Exodus 1:17 says they feared God more than the king. Their courage became contagious and opened doors for the most vulnerable to have life. A simple message: Stand for what is right because it’s right.
Jochebed released her most treasured possession onto the water into God’s care. Her act of letting go results in an interesting twist beyond anything she could have imagined. A simple message: We can choose a bold, ridiculous trust in God.
The first chapter of the amazing story of Exodus holds an invitation to examine your story. As you listen to these short and powerful podcasts, you may discover a new perspective on how God is at work in the shifts, difficulties, and unexpected turns of your life.
We’d love for you to join us on this journey through Exodus and connect with God, with His purpose, and with the many characters woven along the way.
