Saying "Yes" to Be Renewed: Body, Soul, Spirit

January often brings a renewed focus on our bodies—getting back in shape after holiday indulges or shedding the extra pounds we carried in from last year. For many women, this season also awakens familiar thoughts about our bodies being “too _____ (fill in the blank).”
Before we rush into shaping our bodies into what we think they should be, it’s worth asking a deeper question: What does God say about our body, soul, and spirit being interconnected?

Our Body: A Temple for His Presence
1 Corinthians 6:19–20 “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price.”
When we receive Christ for salvation, our spirit becomes the dwelling place of His Spirit. Our body holds this sacred space where He now lives. And He didn’t stop there. He created our brain to house our mind—our soul—where our thoughts, emotions, memories, and desires take shape. Physically, there are neurons firing, synapses connecting, memories being formed and retrieved. Spiritually, something even deeper is happening.
We often try to change our bodies through sheer willpower, but God invites us to begin where transformation truly starts—the mind and the spirit. A renewed mind leads to renewed choices, habits, and eventually a renewed body.
Our Mind: Renewed by the Holy Spirit Within Us
The Holy Spirit doesn’t only dwell in our spirit—He influences how we think, how we feel, and what we desire. The fire of God is meant to ignite our mind to begin to think like He thinks. Our thoughts were never meant to be authored by fear, trauma, lies, or old patterns—but by God and His Spirit living in us.
When we invite the power of God to renew our mind, transformation happens from the inside out. New thoughts form. Emotions begin to heal. The Holy Spirit transforms us with truth to experience peace and freedom from past trauma. This inner renewal begins within us and moves outward in our physical being.
Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
We get to participate with God. We get to choose what enters our mind and what grows there: fear and limitations or Christ-like thoughts that lead to life. We also get to choose what enters our bodies—what we eat, how we rest, how we move. Many times, we focus on behavior modification without understanding the deeper soul-level patterns that led us into unhealthy rhythms.
2 Corinthians 10:5“take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
Our Spirit: The Source of True Transformation
Our spirit is where God’s Spirit lives—where His power flows from. When our spirit is aligned with His Spirit, our soul begins to heal, and our body begins to follow. Wellness is not achieved by striving; it is received by aligning.
So it’s worth asking ourselves:
What is authoring my thoughts?
What is fueling my emotions?
What is shaping my desires?
Let’s say yes to a renewed mind.
Yes to healed emotions.
Yes to Spirit-led desires.
Yes to being well and whole—body, soul, and spirit.
